Abstract:

John Penuelas, Senior Director of Engineering at the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, will highlight several of the transportation technologies currently deployed in the Las Vegas valley that are improving the performance of the freeway and arterial systems.  He will also discuss plans for expanding these systems in the future as well as new initiatives that are underway. 

Bio: John Peñuelas JR, PE, is Senior Director of Engineering for the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada and is a Las Vegas native. He oversees two departments for the RTC.  One operates the regional traffic management center, and the other is responsible for administering local funds collected with fuel and sales tax to the RTC’s six member agencies. He is a graduate of the University of Arizona where he earned his bachelor’s degree in general studies with an emphasis in science, technology, health, and society. Prior to joining the RTC in 2015, his 29-year career includes working as a survey technician for the Nevada Department of Transportation, as a traffic technician for Clark County Public Works, and as a project engineer and traffic manager for the City of Henderson. Professionally, he has been a member of the Institute of Transportation Engineers since 1995 and is a Past President of the Nevada Chapter. Away from the office, JP lives and dies with Arizona Wildcat athletics.
