The Center for Applied Transportation Sciences (CATS) has partnered with the City of Phoenix since December 2019 to provide engineering training for traffic signal timing optimization.
Through this multi-phase effort, the UA project team has provided the city's traffic engineers and technicians with a series of technical training sessions for traffic signal re-timing and optimization. The training uses WaySync, software originally developed by the University of Nevada, Reno, to help the city re-time traffic signals on multiple corridors efficiently and effectively, and to help traffic engineers better understand traffic signal timing principles and the optimization tool used by the City regularly.
Through this multi-phase effort, CATS works closely with City staff to develop practical, data-driven solutions that enhance traffic signal operations and support Phoenix's long-term transportation goals.
